INTERSEK BRINGS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL COMMUNITIES TOGETHER THROUGH SPORT, FRIENDSHIP AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE
Hout Bay International School, Blouberg International School and Helderberg International School hosted InterSEK, a multi-day global school sports gathering celebrating competition, friendship and cultural exchange. The event brought together students and staff from our international sister schools, creating opportunities for our students to connect, compete and build lifelong friendships across borders.
The three South African schools form part of the SEK and IES school network, which comprises 26 schools across 17 countries worldwide. InterSEK reflects the global nature of this network, bringing together students from different countries and cultures through a shared passion for sport and international collaboration.
The event encouraged students to learn from one another, celebrate their differences and develop a shared sense of community beyond the classroom. Competing across a range of sporting disciplines, students represented their schools in golf, football, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, tennis and athletics. The programme provided opportunities to challenge themselves, demonstrate their skills and experience the value of teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship.
The event opened with a special ceremony featuring performances by representatives of the participating South African schools. The performances showcased local talent and set an energetic, welcoming tone for the days ahead.
While sporting achievement is an important part of InterSEK, the gathering places equal emphasis on the relationships formed between visiting students and their host communities. Through competition, cultural exchange and shared experiences, students have the opportunity to develop friendships and gain a broader appreciation of different cultures and perspectives.
“InterSEK is about so much more than the results on the sports field. It is an opportunity for young people from different countries and backgrounds to come together, build friendships and develop a deeper appreciation of one another,” said the event’s organisers. “We are proud to welcome our sister schools and grateful to everyone who has helped create an experience that celebrates international collaboration, teamwork and community.”
